The Beatitudes: Icons to the Heart of Jesus, God’s Beloved Son

Theme: This Retreat will aim to explore the core life orientation of the Lord Jesus as given in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:1-12. The Beatitudes are values basic to our heartfelt knowledge of Jesus as ‘God’s Beloved Son’. [Mark 1:11] Jesus’ identity and our own as Christians is rooted in his Baptism and given definition in the Beatitudes. A key retreat grace is deep personal knowledge as daughters and sons of God’s beloved family.
Facilitator:
Fr. Earl Smith, S.J. is a member of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits, since 1977 and a priest since May 1987. Earl is a native of Halifax, and a founder of Jesuit Centre of Spirituality, Halifax. He has been active as a teacher/pastoral counsellor and retreat provider for much of his priesthood for which he has academic credentials from various schools including University of Toronto and Loyola University, Chicago. He is a student of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and is active in training programs that teach others to give retreats in the Ignatian tradition of spirituality.
